Warmth Kit Drive

Whilst, our sleeping bag is in production, we wanted to make sure our houseless community has some warmth. The warmth kit drive is a community centered project that creates kits out of hand warmers, gloves, socks and shower sheets. Through a partnership with Blue Apron, we upcycle their food containers into insulated storage bags for our items. Winter of 2022 we are expanding our efforts and turning little library nooks into warming stations. In addition to the warmth stations, we are building make shift insulated igloos to protect and shelter our communities during the winter storms

Founded in a community resourced charter school on the eastside of Detroit, five driven high school students and their english teacher came together to create a vision for the future of youth healing spaces in Detroit.
Detroit Heals Detroit is a youth-led organization deeply committed to cultivating spaces for healing, empowerment, and leadership among Black youth in our city. Guided by those most impacted by systemic harm, we utilize innovative youth-led strategies that address the impacts of intergenerational trauma, systemic oppression, and violence within their communities to mobilize Detroit BIPOC youth aged 14 to 24 to lead in the dismantlement of oppressive structures. With the goal of building collective healing and resilience, we deliver culturally rooted, trauma-informed, engagement programs integrated with healing centered restorative practices that equip young people with the skills, support and empowerment needed to address systemic, economic, environmental, racial, and carceral trauma while actively disrupting the systems that perpetuate it.
